Our boundaries (a triangular area) are: the Highway 401 (MacDonald/Cartier Freeway) on the north, on the west, Morningside, south to The Highland Creek - follow the Creek to The Queen's Highway #2A to the confluence with Highway 401. (See Map below)

Highland Creek is located in the easterly end of what was the City of Scarborough.
with their own Mayor and Aldermen/Councilors amalgamated into a large Municipal Corporation called The Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto. Effective January 1st
of 1998, the Provincial Government of Ontario decided to cause Metro, as it
was known, to cease to exist and to create in its stead, the "New" City of
Toronto. Although now the City of Toronto, (fifth largest in North America) many community sub-names have remained...thus it is with Highland Creek - one of the oldest communities within the new Toronto.

HIGHLAND CREEK COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION  -  BACKGROUND

In the early 70’s, as new housing developments sprang up,  two ratepayers
groups were formed  in the Highland Creek community area (The East Highland Creek Community Association and the West Highland Creek Community Association,  both  being non-incorporated entities, representing the eastern and western halves of the community, Morrish
Road being the dividing line).
In June 1976, the first issue of The Villager, a community newsletter, was born
under the auspices of the East Highland Creek Community
Association and   soon thereafter  the West Highland Creek Community Association  joined in as
co-publisher. The  Villager has continued
uninterrupted since that date serving as
a medium for listing community events, and activities, providing information to and
from residents of
Highland Creek and any other matters affecting the well being of
the
area.
In 1980, the East Highland Creek and West Highland Creek groups, recognizing
that they had common goals and faced common challenges,
merged to form the
Highland Creek Community Association.
The HCCA was incorporated in 1984 as a non-profit, non-shareholding Ontario corporation.

Even Caregivers Need Care
Support group for those caring for individuals with Alzheimer Disease or a related dementia

Providence Healthcare offers a 'satellite' outreach program that provides caregivers with an opportunity to share and discuss the emotional, physical and financial stresses associated with care-giving in a non-judgemental and informal environment.

These sessions provide communication and support for caregivers, and recreation activities for clients. While caregivers participate in the information sessions, the person to whom they provide care can be in the room next-door, enjoying recreational activities led by staff specifically trained in the care of individuals with Alzheimer-type Disease.  A nominal fee of $3.00 per person is charged per visit.

Day Clubs are held weekly on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. at:

CHANGES IN THE OFFICIAL PLAN

In November 2002,  City Council adopted a new Official Plan for the City of Toronto replacing the former OP's of Scarborough, North York, Etobicoke, etc.  That was approved in part by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.  Subsequently, well over 150 parties appealed the plan (portions or  all of it) to the OMB.
The OMB has since been meeting with these parties to resolve the objections  raised and finally on July 6th., 2006 approved this latest Official Plan with the agreed modifications. We do not know at this time what, if any, modifications were made to the Highland Creek Secondary Plan section of the Official Plan and trust it remains unchanged from that originally approved. We await publication of the approved plan.

Please make use of it to be involved in our community.
