It is very alarming that a young man was victim of a homicide in Highland Creek.  The investigation is ongoing and police have indicated that they have some good information.  Please remember that if you witness suspicious behaviour at any time, whether it is ongoing or just once in a while, please call the police radio room at 416-808-2222 and pass along the information.  It is our responsibility as community members to work in partnership with the police in keeping our neighbourhood safe.

(Webmaster:  To parents, do you know why and where they are going when your teens leave your home late at night?)

Dear Residents,

As of January 16, 2006 we are pleased to announce that Toronto Police Service, 43 Division is up and running.  I hope that you are seeing more visible presence of the police along Ellesmere and Kingston Road.  There are more police cruisers out in our immediate vicinity and this will be a good thing for everyone.

There are a several incidents to report to you:

  1. On January 22nd at 9:30 p.m. there was a robbery attempt at the ATM at Old Kingston Road and Morrish.  The victim was assaulted and the suspect attempted to grab his wallet.  Nothing was obtained.  Suspect is described as male, black 20-25 years, 5’6”, 150 lbs. medium build, beige coat with hood.
  2. On February 3rd at 11:20 p.m. there was a robbery on Military Trail.  The victim was walking home when a group of suspects stopped their car and robbed him of his Ipod.  Vehicle is described as 4 door red vehicle, may be a Honda Civic.  No suspect descriptions.
  3. On February 5th at 7:15 p.m. there was a break and enter on Lavery Trail.  The alarm company alerted police to the break-in.  Suspects forced a basement side window and stole jewelry.  No suspects identified.

Please do not use ATM’s at night. Your safety is most important and it is better during the daylight hours.

We are seeing a number of incidents of garage and shed break-ins in south Scarborough.  Please remember to lock your garage doors and also lock your vehicles.  Valuable sports equipment should be kept indoors.  If you see a crime in progress or highly suspicious activity, call 911.  Non-emergency calls can be made to 416-808-2222.

On Tuesday, January 31st a marijuana grow house operation was investigated on Good Road.  Information had been passed along to the police from a concerned resident and it was subsequently searched and found to contain several hundred marijuana plants.  The investigation is continuing.

This information confirms just how important it is to keep a watchful eye on any suspicious activity in the community.  Highland Creek is a wonderful & safe community and we all can help to keep it that way!

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE  -WARNING

If you get a call from an  individual identifying himself as a BELL CANADA Service technician conducting a test on  telephone lines statiing  that to complete the test you should touch nine (9), zero (0)
& the pound sign (#) and then hang up.  DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE!
Pushing 90#,  gives  the individual full access to your telephone line, which allows them to place long distance  telephone calls and bill  it to your phone number,  this scam has been originating from many local jails/prisons.

Dear Residents,

Dear Neighbours,

At this time of year, crimes tend to increase.  On December 9th at 4:40 p.m. there was a robbery on Ellesmere Road (3550’s).  A young female victim was robbed of her cell phone.  Suspects are described as: 1. male, black, 18-22 years, 5’8” 150 lbs, medium build, black nylon jacket with brown fur lined hood, grey track pants, black balaclava, Nike Air Force One runners 2. male, black, 18-22 years, 5’8” 150 lbs. dark blue nylon jacket, black balaclava, blue jeans, white Nike Air Force One runners.

(Webmaster...this follows a robbery at the bus stop at Ellesmere and Zaph.  Probably using your cell phone on the street attracts robbers.)

Please remember to keep an extra watch on your neighbours’ property over the holiday season and ask them to do the same for you.  Have a safe and blessed Christmas.

I am attaching the Highland Creek Neighbourhood Watch Crime Report for June 1st to October 30th.

Please remember to secure your doors and windows whenever you are leaving your home.  Timers and motion sensor outdoor lighting are a helpful deterrent to crime, especially when darkness comes in the early evening.
